Hilarity in a Cave
On Boxing Day, as is tradition, I went downtown with my brothers to gawk at the goods on sale (and pick up a few at discount, generally at World's Biggest Bookstore and my favourite Toronto merchant, The Hairy Tarantula). This year I brought back with me an interesting book by Jim C. Hines called Goblin Quest.
This novel is amazing.
Goblin Quest is not your typical high fantasy novel, and I get the feeling that Mr. Hines isn't your typical fantasy author, either. (After all, what kind of person would write a story called Blade of the Bunny?) It's a deliciously enjoyable read, the story of a goblin taken prisoner by a group of adventurers (or is that misadventurers?) who, through his journey, becomes something much greater than the nuisances that his race typically are.
There's a sequel, too, called Goblin Hero, and come March it'll be a trilogy with the publication of Goblin War. If you pick up Goblin Quest and enjoy it (and I'm sure you will) then make sure to grab the follow-ups, too!
